Virtual Router and VirtualBox and Mobile Broadband ... not all playing

I've just installed VirtualRouter following the pointer from http://www.londatiga.net/it/how-to-share-internet-connection-between-pc-and-android-phone-using-wifi/ and have run into a snag.

The executive summary is that if I start VirtualBox first, none of the devices connected through VirtualRouter have internet access. If I start VirtualRouter first the devices connected through it work well (thanks), but my VirtualBox VM has no external internet access.

This looks to be some sort of a duel between VirtualRouter and the VirtualBox Host-Only network driver.

Some technical details.
  • host is Windows 7
  • the internet connection is Mobile Broadband via a Huwei USB device
  • the wireless is Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 AGN
  • the VirtualBox client is running Debian latest, with NAT and Host-Only network connections
Any clues or suggestions would be most appreciated.
